First victory for Telefónica MoviStar at IMS 600 World Championship

IMS 600 World Championship - First victory for Telefónica MoviStar at IMS 600 World Championship
BAYONA, ESP-(8-10-2002) The skipper Pedro Campos achieved on board of Telefónica MoviStar, the first victory in the IMS 600 Worlds organised by the Monte Real Club Yates and sponsored by Xunta de Galicia and Spanair.

Once more wind was the protagonist, since its absence made think that races might been postponed again, and finally by 1630 hrs with a 8-10 knots wind the start of the first race was given.

Since the beginning, the Sinergia 40 left quite clear, that except surprises, will be the star of the Worlds as from the first miles positioned on the head of the fleet, those were Telefónica MoviStar, Siemens Mobile, Fermax and ONO. Intense was the fight between the Telefónica MoviStar and Siemens, winning the first one by only 3 seconds on elapsed time as Pedro Campos made a mistake on the last windward mark. The IMX 40 “Mar Natura”, “Zorongo” and “Lanzamar” also made a good race following on the classification the Sinergia 40.

For the First 40.7 the race was also very competitive, even Red Devil made better than IMX 40 Lanzamar. And also remarkable the French P&P Sailing Team skippered by Philippe Ligot who were not used to the 40.7 and finished in an 8th placed.
